Water pans are important for storing water during the rainy seasons and are essential not only for animals to drink, but also for cooling, breeding and shelter. From the moment the water pan started filling rainwater, animals came to drink and the water pan was full of all different types of animals. These water pans will store water for at least 3 to 6 months after rainfall. Many animals will cool off by swimming in the water pans or coating themselves in mud. We have dug 6 water pans and our plan is to excavate many more in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem.
